Originally from Vietnam, I’ve called Norway home for 15 years, embracing its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture. Campfire Mapping Programme
As Tromsø becomes an increasingly popular travel destination, the
pressure on nature and local communities is growing. At Boukersen Heim, we believe in responsible tourism and want to offer our guests the opportunity to make a positive impact while exploring the beautiful landscapes around Tromsø.
That’s why we’ve joined a programme led by the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) and Rissa Citizen Science, focusing on campfire mapping. Campfires, especially during the Northern Lights season, are too often made directly on the ground, damaging soil, vegetation, and habitats that support Arctic biodiversity.
During your tour, you’ll be encouraged to help your guide spot and register campfire sites. This will support important research to identify hotspot areas and guide restoration projects to return nature to its original state.

You really can’t beat the price of this place. You get your own room that locks and there are several bathrooms to share. The area is kept pretty clean. You have designated areas on the fridge and there are at least 5 refrigerators. The rooms are very warm. My only complaint was getting up the hill from the bus stop with our luggage which was doable but we definitely needed a rest in our room. There were 2 adult cats and 2 kittens during our stay that were very curious.

Highly recommend this tour with the wonderful Luis! Amazing tour and places, with Luis’ knowledge meaning that we went to places that weren’t crowded with tourists. The chai tea is some of the best tea you will ever try too! Must do in Tromsø! Thank you Luis.

Martin and Jacob were excellent guides on our Northern Lights tour! They shared fascinating insights about the city and the Northern Lights, making the experience even more enjoyable. Seeing the Northern Lights faintly dancing in the sky was great. I especially appreciated the chance to try reindeer sausage and homemade chai tea around a campfire on a chilly night. Jacob also took an amazing photo of the lights. The small group size was a big plus, as it allowed the guides to give us more personal attention. Overall, it was a wonderful and well-organized experience that I’d highly recommend!Must do in Tromsø! Thank you Luis.

It was an amazing experience for us. Great location, kind and very nice staff, and great Aurora Tour. They provide us a half discounted tour for hunting northern lights. We only stayed one night but we were lucky enough to see the beautiful light in the sky. The hotel is close to the bus stop, and the instruction the hotel gave us was also helpful. We definitely enjoyed the time there. We strongly recommend the place. Thank you for everything. Best wishes from Japan.

We experiences 2 fantastic tours with Louis, on both the Fjord tour and Northern Light chase. We feel like we made a new friend in Louis who - despite bad weather - made sure we got the best out of our experience and gave us memories of a lifetime.
